POSITION SUMMARY:

The MES & Industrial Integration Analyst plans, develops, integrates, supports, and continuously improves manufacturing execution systems and the industrial data pathways that connect shop-floor equipment with Modatek’s information systems. The role supports MES applications, Ignition, Kepware, OPC connectivity, production-data collection, traceability, manufacturing reporting, and approved IIoT or edge-integration initiatives.

The position works across Information Systems, Controls and Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, ERP, infrastructure, data, and external solution providers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education in automation, robotics, controls, computer engineering, information systems, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with MES or industrial applications; Ignition, Kepware, OPC, SQL, APIs, reporting, or manufacturing integration experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production support, traceability, data collection, testing, and structured troubleshooting.
  • Awareness of networking, Windows or Linux services, databases, identity, access, cybersecurity, backup, monitoring, and change management.
  • Strong documentation, communication, analytical, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to support approved after-hours deployments, maintenance, incident response, or production recovery when required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enable reliable, secure, supportable, and well-documented manufacturing-system integration from the plant floor through MES, databases, APIs, dashboards, and approved enterprise platforms. The role converts production requirements into governed technical solutions without creating unsupported interfaces, single-person dependencies, or unmanaged operational risk.

Core Accountabilities

1. MES Ownership and Support

Plan, configure, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support approved MES applications and interfaces.

Support Ignition, production reporting, traceability, labelling workflows, and assigned manufacturing functions.

Triage incidents by isolating application, integration, database, network, middleware, equipment, or process causes and escalating appropriately.

Maintain system health records, known issues, support procedures, and escalation paths.

2. Industrial and IT/OT Integration

Design and support approved data flows among PLC-connected systems, OPC, Kepware, Ignition, MES, ERP, SQL, APIs, dashboards, and data platforms.

Maintain approved tags, counters, data routines, mappings, schemas, and validation rules.

Coordinate network, server, firewall, certificate, service-account, storage, backup, and monitoring needs with Systems Analysts.

Coordinate PLC and controls changes with Controls and Engineering; do not alter safety logic or assume machine-control ownership.

3. Requirements, Design, and Delivery

Analyze manufacturing issues, document current and future processes, and translate approved requirements into specifications.

Estimate dependencies, risks, milestones, testing, and support needs.

Evaluate reuse, configuration, integration, purchase, and custom-development options.

Participate in required architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data, and change reviews before release.

4. Data Quality, Traceability, and Reporting

Implement controls that improve manufacturing-data accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and traceability.

Define validation, exception handling, reconciliation, and acceptance criteria with business and data owners.

Support production KPIs, dashboards, reporting, genealogy, and traceability while noting source-system limits.

Escalate data-quality issues to the accountable process, equipment, application, or data owner.

5. IIoT, Edge, and Future Factory Enablement

Support approved sensor, edge, MQTT, streaming, microservice, and industrial-data initiatives requiring manufacturing integration.

Partner with the Data Scientist and providers on data readiness, feature inputs, inference integration, and monitoring for approved AI uses.

Document latency, availability, data-loss, recovery, and support requirements before deployment.

Provide technical input to Future Factory initiatives while sponsors remain accountable for business outcomes.

6. Governance, Cybersecurity, and Change Control

Follow approved security, access, source-control, testing, documentation, change, release, and segregation-of-duties practices.

Ensure designated owners review service accounts, credentials, certificates, firewalls, remote access, and privileged access.

Provide application and integration details for inventories, risk reviews, audits, continuity, and recovery planning.

7. Documentation, Recovery, and Lifecycle

Maintain architecture, data-flow, interface, host, dependency, runbook, support, deployment, and recovery documentation.

Ensure solutions have named business, service, technical, and support owners before handover.

Participate in backup, restoration, failover, maintenance, and recovery testing.

Identify obsolete, duplicate, unsupported, or high-risk integrations and recommend remediation, consolidation, replacement, or retirement.

8. Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer

Guide co-op students, junior staff, contractors, and project members on assigned MES and integration work.

Review technical work, test evidence, and documentation within delegated authority.

Prevent temporary resources from solely owning production systems, credentials, deployments, or critical knowledge.

Cross-train a secondary owner for critical MES and integration functions.
