This Position reports to:

R&D Engineer
 

You will be in charge of mechanical design within the Measurement & Analytics business unit, located in Québec City (Canada).

Reporting to the opto-mechanical group, you will be responsible for designing optical instruments in close collaboration with other teams (systems, electronics, testing and integration) and the mechanical engineer, using the CREO (Pro/ENGINEER) software.

The mechanical designer is responsible for the quality of the 3D design and technical drawings of various components. They ensure that customer requirements are met within established cost, schedule, and quality standards, while adhering to the product development process.

The ideal mechanical designer demonstrates a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and values teamwork. They are autonomous, responsible, methodical, critical, and dedicated to successfully completing assignments.

Your Role: Take on the Challenge

  • Design complex opto-mechanical instruments in compliance with requirements, costs, and deadlines.

  • Select and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3D printing, and others).

  • Create and verify drawings in accordance with the ASME Y14.5M geometric tolerancing standard.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews.

  • Apply internal procedures for product management (Windchill).

  • Actively contribute to planning tasks and technical proposals by developing preliminary concepts (estimates).

  • Propose new approaches (assembly, manufacturing, etc.).

  • Support purchasing during interactions with suppliers.

  • Occasionally support production.

What it takes to run what runs the world

  • College diploma (D.E.C.) in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

  • Five to ten years of experience in mechanical design; knowledge of opto-mechanical systems design is an asset.

  • Knowledge of materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments.

  • Familiarity with product data management (PDM, Windchill).

  • Experience with the “minimum dimensioning” approach.

  • Experience with 3D CAD software; experience with CREO (Pro/ENGINEER) and its modules (“Advanced Assembly,” “Cabling,” “Mechanism”) is an asset.

  • Experience working in a laboratory and prototyping environment.

  • Experience in designing aerospace instruments and/or equipment for harsh environments (asset).

  • Knowledge of “Design for Manufacturing and Assembly” (DFM/DFA) principles (asset).

  • Knowledge of CMM inspection (asset).

  • Bilingual (French/English) with strong written and verbal communication skills. French is required. English is also required to regularly communicate with clients outside Québec.
