As Managing Director, Medium Term Funding, Treasury, you’ll be involved in the strategy and execution of Desjardins funding initiatives. Desjardins Group’s Treasury is the first line of defense and a key player in rolling out the organization’s growth strategy. Through funding initiatives and the use of various medium-term funding programs (senior debt, covered bonds and subordinated debt programs), you’ll help minimize the organization’s funding costs and broaden its investor base. You’ll recommend and advise on initiatives to senior management based on various funding constraints, including regulatory liquidity and capital ratios. This position is in a complex, constantly changing market environment. You’ll need in-depth knowledge of markets, strong initiative, leadership and a sense of priorities to succeed in this position. More specifically, you will be required to:
Establish a short- and medium-term funding strategy over several years to support the organization’s growth ambitions.
Optimize funding programs by minimizing costs, contributing to increased profitability for Desjardins Group; propose terms, currencies and issue types to optimize the cost of funding and the size of bond issues.
Discuss market forces affecting global bond supply and demand with external partners (domestic and international brokers).
Monitor market trends affecting the organization’s funding strategy, including monitoring industry peer funding practices.
Understand and stay on top of any changes to institutional funding programs used by systemically important financial institutions.
Monitor changes in the regulatory environment affecting liquidity, including facilities with the Bank of Canada.
Participate in executing medium-term funding transactions in domestic and international markets and collaborate with various sectors (Legal Affairs, Financial Disclosure, Operations) of the organization to provide the legal requirements for issuing funding.
Work with Treasury portfolio managers to support investment decisions in highly liquid bonds.
Understand what comprises the organization’s cost of funds, and support and educate business lines on transfer pricing.
Monitor the foreign exchange risk associated with items affecting the balance sheet of an organization operating internationally.
Work with Risk Management to understand, analyze and optimize LCR, NSFR and NCCF liquidity ratios.
Support Risk Management with liquidity simulations (stress tests, integrated risk scenarios, recovery plans).
Optimize funding initiatives to support Total and TLAC capital ratios.

What you bring to the table
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Applied Finance, MBA
A minimum of nine years of relevant experience in a similar position, ideally with management experience
Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
CFA, FRM designations
Knowledge of French is required
Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking partners, members and/or clients
Proficiency in explaining complex files
Advanced knowledge of the regulatory framework of Canadian financial institutions
Knowledge of foreign exchange risk management, hedge accounting and other factors that can affect accounting results
Knowledge of market dynamics that may have a direct or indirect impact on the organization’s institutional funding
Knowledge of derivatives (interest rate swaps, currency swaps, options) and their effects on hedge accounting
Knowledge of Desjardins products and services
