About the Role

The Managing Director of Business Development will drive growth by building and strengthening relationships with banks, credit unions, fin-techs and other financial institutions. This role unlocks new revenue opportunities, expands distribution, and positions us as a trusted partner within the financial services ecosystem.

Amid rapid change in banking and fintech, this role is critical to ensuring we stay competitive, compliant, and innovative. By turning strategic objectives into actionable partnerships, the Senior Business Development Manager helps secure our long-term success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the institutional business development strategy, aligning partnerships with the organization’s long-term growth objectives
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions to establish trust and unlock strategic opportunities
  • Drive high-impact negotiations and structure complex partnership agreements that balance strategic value, regulatory compliance, and commercial outcomes
  • Provide market and competitive insights to influence organizational strategy, product direction, and partner engagement models
  • Represent the organization at industry forums, regulatory discussions, and executive roundtables to strengthen market presence and institutional credibility
  • Oversee governance and performance management of key institutional partnerships, ensuring accountability and sustainable growth
  • Champion cross-functional alignment, guiding internal teams to deliver scalable solutions that meet institutional partner needs
Success OutcomesFirst 60 Days
  • Build a prioritized pipeline of 30-40 target institutions (banks, credit unions, fintechs) and align with leadership on partnership objectives and KPIs.
  • Establish 5–7 senior-level relationships at top-tier institutions while delivering competitive and market insights back to the executive team.
First 120 Days
  • Advance multiple high-value partnership discussions, with at least 2–3 opportunities in late-stage negotiation representing a combined potential TPV impact of $200M+ annually.
  • Deliver a set of 5–10 partnership-driven product insights and define a repeatable evaluation framework for institutional deals.
Within 12 Months
  • Close 3–5 institutional partnerships that directly contribute to at least 10% subscriber growth and $500M+ in TPV through institutional channels.
  • Build the foundation of a scalable partnership function, including quarterly governance reviews, standardized reporting, and a plan for hiring 1–2 FTEs with budget justification.
Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in business development, corporate development, or strategic partnerships within financial services, banking, or fintech
  • Proven track record of building and managing executive-level relationships with banks, credit unions, or other financial institutions
  • Strong expertise in partnership structuring, complex negotiations, and contract management in regulated environments
  • Deep understanding of banking operations, payments, compliance, and risk management frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to translate market trends and insights into actionable strategies that drive institutional growth
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at the board and C-suite level
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across product, finance, compliance, and operations teams

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working in or alongside high-growth fintechs or technology-driven financial institutions
  • Familiarity with open banking, embedded finance, and emerging digital banking models
  • Established network within the banking and financial services sector
  • International business development or cross-border partnership experience
  • MBA or advanced degree in business, finance, or a related field
