We're hiring an Engineering Manager to join our team in Identity and Trust, which combines Remitly's multiple Risk and Verification squads into a single Trust Platform. This team builds resilient and intelligent products, that operate at scale to effectively prevent product misuse, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the customer onboarding experience across Remitly products. We collaborate with multiple internal teams to improve customer experience and drive business outcomes by inventing, building, measuring, and managing software.
As a manager, you will collaborate across teams to enable risk and verification capabilities, providing a solid foundation for all Remitly businesses. You will lead a full-stack engineering team, guide technical strategy, and work with partners in Product, Design, Compliance, and Analytics to reduce customer friction and ensure compliance with government bodies. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, giving you exposure to a wide range of technical and business challenges. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager.
To succeed in this role, you should enjoy tackling complex challenges, have strong attention to detail, and possess a strategic mindset. You must be skilled at making trade-offs between competing priorities. We're looking for someone with the desire to continuously improve and expand both their technical skills and scope of influence.
You Will:
Manage all aspects of people management within the Identity and Trust organization, including hiring, team structure, performance management, and career development. Responsibilities include conducting performance reviews, delivering ongoing feedback and coaching, and creating meaningful growth opportunities for direct reports.
Collaborate on the development of end-to-end project plans, guide teams through successful execution, and ensure leadership and key stakeholders remain aligned on progress and milestones.
Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to set and adapt long-term strategies in response to evolving priorities and opportunities.
Champion engineering and operational best practices by defining metrics and processes for continuous assessment and improvement. Lead cross-functional process enhancements to drive efficiency and quality.
Clearly communicate the technology, requirements, objectives, and milestones across programs and teams to ensure alignment and accountability.
Define clear expectations and lead the creation of a collaborative, high-accountability environment in partnership with engineering and cross-functional teams.
You Have:
A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of software development experience, including backend (e.g., Go, Java/Kotlin) and frontend (e.g., TypeScript, React Native) technologies.
Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a strong track record in full-stack or platform-oriented application development.
Experience building and scaling distributed systems in a microservices environment.
Experience driving and building long-term technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
Experience in defining and influencing technical designs and processes across a team.
Experience leading multi-quarter complex engineering projects with several engineers and working in partnership with one or more partners, such as Product Managers, Program Managers, or TPMs.
Experience mentoring engineers up to the Senior Engineer level.
Experience with technical interviewing candidates for all levels up to Senior Engineer.
Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is $148,000-$185,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
