Job Summary:

The Loss Control Consultant will play a pivotal role in assessing and mitigating property risk for clients in a range of technical industries, including Oil & Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Mining, Forestry, Manufacturing, and Distribution. This position involves conducting in-depth property loss control inspections, evaluating physical hazards, management and maintenance programs, and providing actionable recommendations to clients and underwriters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site and virtual property loss control inspections for clients within targeted industries (e.g., Oil & Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Mining, Forestry, Manufacturing, Distribution)
  • Evaluate physical hazards (structural, operational, process-related), loss prevention systems (e.g., sprinklers and alarms), management and maintenance programs
  • Review and analyze client risk using market reports, gathered site data, and industry information to support underwriting decisions regarding risk quality and insurability
  • Provide technical guidance to clients regarding best practices in property risk mitigation and compliance with industry regulations
  • Write comprehensive survey reports and risk summaries in a timely manner, clearly outlining findings and recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain an organized personal schedule and effectively manage caseload
  • Regularly attend client meetings and participate in presentations to discuss survey results and risk strategies
  • Serve as a technical resource to internal teams, including underwriting and risk management

Work Allocation:

  • On-site surveys & in-house risk evaluation: 65%
  • Writing risk reports/summaries: 25%
  • Attending client meetings/presentations: 10%

Travel:

Travel requirements vary by assignment; typically regional/local, ranging from 0% up to 25% monthly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Fire Protection, Risk Management, Safety, or a related technical field preferred
  • Professional designations (e.g., CSP, CFPS, ARM, OHST, PE) are a plus
  • Minimum  years of experience in property loss control, technical insurance surveying, or risk consulting within industrial sectors
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, fire protection systems, and applicable codes (OSHA, NFPA, FM Global, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize and manage a flexible work schedule
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with risk management software and report writing platforms
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally and locally as required
