The Legal Team propels Lightspeed’s success, empowering our global stakeholders by navigating challenges, turning risks into opportunities, providing commercially-minded solutions, and championing integrity.

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join us in Montreal. You will partner and collaborate daily with our business teams, preparing and negotiating commercial agreements and helping the business navigate intricate and unprecedented challenges inherent in a rapidly evolving tech company.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with customers, strategic partners, and vendors/suppliers across NOAM, EMEA and APAC.
  • Delivering legal and general commercial advice to key stakeholders across all Lightspeed departments.
  • Documenting legal know-how and delivering training to the wider Legal Team and business stakeholders.
  • Identifying and advising on legal risks and compliance issues relating to the structuring, development and marketing of new products or features.
  • Performing quick, focused legal research and analysis.
  • Helping manage legal aspects of complex, cross-functional, multi-jurisdictional projects.
  • Suggesting, building and improving upon the Legal Team’s operations and processes.
  • Monitoring changes to regulatory requirements and proactively handling regulatory developments.
  • Supporting litigation and other disputes management.
  • Managing investigations by and requests from regulatory bodies and government authorities.

What you need to bring:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in Canada and/or the United States.
  • 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or as in-house counsel, preferably with exposure to international, multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Broad commercial experience. Extensive background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, terms and conditions, and other similar contracts is a must-have.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. French is a strong asset. As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required for this position.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

Even better if you have, but not necessary:

  • Experience working in different jurisdictions and languages; the technology, financial services, and/or SaaS industries.
  • Bonus for specific experience with partnership agreements (referral, reseller and integration), SaaS contracts and procurement contracts.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Privacy, IP, Fiscalization, and Corporate laws.

We know that people are more than what’s on their CV. If you’re unsure that you have the right profile for the role... hit the ‘Apply’ button and give it a try!

What’s in it for you?

Come live the Lightspeed experience...

  • Ability to do your job in a truly flexible hybrid environment (3 days/week in office);
  • Genuine career opportunities in a company that’s creating new jobs everyday;
  • Work in a team big enough for growth but lean enough to make a real impact.

… and enjoy a range of benefits that’ll keep you happy, healthy and (not) hungry:

  • Lightspeed RSU program (we are all owners)
  • Unlimited paid time off policy
  • Flexible working policy
  • Health insurance
  • Health and wellness benefits
  • Possibility for transit fees to be covered
