ABOUT YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, the incumbent will provide high quality legal advice, guidance and services, with respect to compliance with laws relevant to PSP’s investment and corporate activities, including in relation to securities laws and regulations.

As Legal Counsel or Director, Legal Affairs, you’ll: 

  • Provide advice to PSP teams with respect to securities laws and other regulatory matters

  • Provide advice and support on PSP’s debt programs and sustainability reporting

  • Contribute to the review of investment management and other types of agreements relating to the investment management of assets by PSP

  • Participate in corporate initiatives, including leading or participating in working groups, and drafting and reviewing policies, procedures, compliance programs and processes

  • Coordinate and supervise the legal work performed by approved external legal counsels worldwide in accordance with internal policies

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • A University degree in Law

  • Member of the Bar Association of any of the Canadian provinces or territories

  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant experience as a lawyer in securities law and/or corporate transaction gained in private practice or as in-house counsel for a large organization

  • Experience in securities laws and other regulatory compliance regimes is an asset

  • Hardworking, highly professional and autonomous

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proactive

  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work on numerous files

  • Highly competent, analytical and precise

  • A team player

  • Flexible, interested in working in and contributing to a growing organization

  • Bilingualism: English and French (frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
