The world needs us to accelerate the transition to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. Together, we have the energy to change the world.
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to support structural analysis activities for reactor pressure vessel and internal components in the advanced nuclear business. You will work closely with a diverse technical team to perform engineering analyses that demonstrate compliance with the ASME BPVC Section III and generate dynamic loads due to seismic and large pipe break. This position provides the opportunity to work on safety-critical components and contribute to the development and deployment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies. You will also collaborate with cross-disciplinary Engineering Teams to ensure successful execution of assigned engineering tasks in support of the SMR projects.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute analyses for assigned projects using sound engineering principles, while adhering to established business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Perform structural and stress analyses for reactor pressure vessels and internal components using finite element analysis (FEA) tools and closed form equations.
  • Develop and run ANSYS FEA models to evaluate both mechanical and thermal stresses under various service level conditions.
  • Perform engineering evaluations on primary & secondary stress and fatigue to demonstrate compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, primarily Subsection NG, with some exposure to NB, NCD, and NF requirements.
  • Generate dynamic loads for the reactor pressure vessel and other components due to earthquake and large pipe break.
  • Develop creative solutions and reduce analysis complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculation packages, and documentation supporting regulatory and design requirements.
  • Apply P. Eng seal to engineering deliverables in accordance with PEO requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineers, system engineers, project managers, and external partners to complete assigned design activities on time and on budget.
  • Engage internal stakeholders and vendors/suppliers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Identify opportunities to create, improve, and implement advanced automation and analysis methodologies
  • Improve areas of project execution through lean methodology and Design to Cost principles.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced engineers to increase overall knowledge while assuring a successful outcome.
  • Take responsibility of developing workplans, defining scope of work and schedule

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the nuclear industry, including at least 2 years of work on reactor and internal components within nuclear power plants.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing structural analysis in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III Subsection NG/NB/NCD and/or CSA N285.0 standards.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting finite element analysis (FEA), including evaluation of mechanical and thermal loadings, proficiency with ANSYS Workbench or APDL is strongly preferred.
  • Hold a valid Ontario P. Eng. License and be authorized to seal engineering deliverables or demonstrated eligibility to obtain the license within 6 months.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The REQUIRED work location is at the Markham Ontario office 3 days a week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering
  • Programming or data analysis experience using tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Working knowledge of CSA N285.0 and ASME BPVC Section III NB, NG, NCD and NF.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to clearly document engineering analyses and communicate technical findings through reports and presentations.
