Job DescriptionWe are seeking an ISO 26262 Safety Manager to lead functional safety for complex embedded systems in electric and autonomous vehicles. This role combines strategic leadership, technical oversight, and team management, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 and related standards while enabling innovative, safe system solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the functional safety strategy across the full product lifecycle, ensuring compliance to ISO 26262.
- Organize and create appropriate safety-plan, to support and guide the execution of safety-related activities along the entire product lifecycle.
- Lead safety-gap analysis activity by organizing the review of existing functional safety documentation, identifying the potential gaps, and organising them into a safety-plan
- Assigns and guides safety activities to the Safety Engineering team, for the proper execution of the safety-
- Maintain of records & reports to create a safety case in a timely and professional manner.
- Allocate and oversee functional safety requirements across software, hardware, and system-level components.
- Ensure fail-operational strategies, redundancy concepts, and safe fallback modes are integrated into EV and AV architectures.
- Supervise safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, DFA) and verify compliance of work products with ISO 26262.
- Act as a key interface between engineering teams, management, and clients, ensuring clarity, compliance, and readiness for certification audits.
- Support business development efforts by providing recognized safety expertise and participating in technical discussions with clients and partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in system safety engineering, preferably in automotive or commercial vehicle.
- Strong expertise in hazard analysis (HARA / HAZOP) and safety analysis methods (FMEA, FTA).
- Proven experience with ISO 26262 and related functional safety standards (IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC 62061).
- Knowledge of electric vehicle systems, as well as high-voltage architectures, battery management, and safety considerations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing engineers and safety projects.
- Excellent communication skills, including client interaction and audit support.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of brake, steering, and powertrain safety systems.
- Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer) is a plus.
- Hands-on experience integrating mechanical and E/E systems for safety-critical applications.
