In Budget 2023, the Government of Canada announced that PSP Investments would act as the independent and exclusive investment manager for the Canada Growth Fund (CGF) a $15 billion public investment vehicle that was established to support the growth of Canada’s clean economy and help to meet its national economic and climate policy goals. Following this, PSP Investments has incorporated CGF Investment Management (CGFIM) for that purpose. CGFIM is providing the full suite of investment management services to CGF covering the entire investment process pursuant to an Investment Management Agreement (IMA).

ABOUT THE TEAM 

The Canada Growth Fund Investment Management Team manages the C$15bn Canada Growth Fund. The mandate of the Canada Growth Fund focuses on climate investing in Canada. The objectives of the mandate include accelerating the deployment of new technologies that will drive GHG emissions reduction, as well as local economic benefits while also catalyzing additional private investment to the sector. We invest in Canadian projects and companies across themes such as carbon capture, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, electrification, clean technology and critical minerals. 

ABOUT YOUR ROLE 

As an Intern, Canada Growth Fund you’ll work closely with the team’s analysts and associates in conducting the following tasks:   

  • Assist deal teams on the execution of transactions, including direct investments in projects and companies, as well as external fund commitments 

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of investment opportunities 

  • Assess key merits and risks 

  • Conduct sector and thematic research 

  • Perform financial (valuation, returns, modelling) and impact analysis 

  • Assist in key due diligence activities including reviewing work performed by third-party advisors (commercial, legal, accounting, tax, environmental, etc.) 

  • Assist deal teams in the determination of material ESG factors and calculation of impact metrics, including avoided emissions and economic benefits associated with transactions 

  • Help prepare investment memorandums and participate in the presentation of recommendations to the Investment Committee 

  • Participate in the management of existing portfolio companies and assets 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, Mathematics or Engineering degree (in penultimate or final academic year) 

  • Currently enrolled in an investment program, an asset 

  • High academic achievement 

  • Business acumen and excellent financial/accounting analytical skills 

  • High level of proficiency with computer tools such as MS-Office (namely Excel and PowerPoint)  

  • A team player who enjoys a high-performance culture 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) 

  • Positive proactive attitude with a strong desire to learn, ideate and innovate 

  • A respect for differences of opinion and an inclusive mindset 

  • Must return to studies after the internship or the internship must be part of your curriculum 

  • Good communications skills in English and French (or willingness to learn) (Regular interactions in English with investment partners based outside of Quebec Example: peers, bankers, brokerage firms, etc. and PSP employees in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa) 

  • Candidates must have the right to work in Canada* for the period specified to be considered for this position.  No support to obtain the right to work will be provided

  • *Options include Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid open work permit
