The opportunity

Join a team shaping the future of resilient, efficient, and safe energy systems. As a Project Lead Engineer, you will guide the engineering vision for complex HV/MV substation projects—helping deliver critical infrastructure that communities rely on every day. This is a high‑impact opportunity to lead multidisciplinary engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, from proposal through design, construction and commissioning.

You will collaborate with a diverse network of internal and external partners, bringing clarity, structure and innovation to challenging projects. Your expertise will help drive technical excellence, ensure project quality, and influence key decisions that shape system reliability and performance.

In this role, you’ll balance strategic thinking with hands‑on technical leadership—coordinating engineering disciplines, solving problems, and finding value‑added solutions. Whether modernizing brownfield substations, developing cutting‑edge designs, or guiding teams through risk and opportunity assessments, your work will directly support Hitachi Energy’s mission to advance a sustainable energy future for all.

If you’re energized by meaningful work, collaborative engineering, and leading projects that make a tangible impact, this role offers a chance to lead with purpose and grow with a global leader in power technologies.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead all engineering activities across proposal, design, and construction phases.
  • Develop system designs including single-lines, layouts, grounding systems and BOMs.
  • Review and validate subcontractor bids to ensure accuracy, scope alignment, and optimal cost.
  • Assess risks and opportunities; recommend strategies to improve safety, cost and quality.
  • Support site, installation and commissioning teams by resolving engineering issues.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and structures for brownfield project requirements.
  • Perform technical and constructability reviews of internal and subcontractor designs.
  • Ensure designs meet local electrical safety codes and project contract requirements.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) certification in Canada (required).
  • Minimum 8 years of HV/MV substation engineering experience (EPC preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of HV substation components and design calculations.
  • Proficiency in English and French, spoken and written.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, domestically and internationally.

  • Hybrid Work from home policy.
