Position Summary
The Human Resources Department Leader is responsible for the implementation and co-ordination of divisional policies and programs covering the following: employment, labour relations, wage and salary administration, orientation and training, placement, safety and health services, and environmental management system (EMS). The Department Leader directly or indirectly oversees the functions The Human Resources Department Leader oversees and directs the Human Resources team by supervising, planning, organizing, mentoring, and implementing Human Resources programs. This Manager must guide their team toward meeting divisional objectives and corporate objectives.
Required Skills & Experience
1. Must have completed post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent.
2. Completion of HRPA designation.
3. Skill gained by experience - minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
4. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft office and HRIS (Workday, ADP).
5. Must possess tact, discretion, integrity, and maturity of judgement.
6. Certificate of Professional Standing (CHRP) a definite asset.
7. Must possess time management, leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Job Duties
1. Assist in the development and management of all Magna programs, and divisional HR Programs.
2. Develop and lead all direct reports within the HR Department to ensure successful day-to-day operations and support the implementation of all department initiatives.
3. Establish strong working relationships with all employees, department managers, direct reports, committees and teams to build trust and reinforce strong communication.
4. Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of all HR systems for the division, including hiring, performance management, training & development, health & safety, environmental, and other HR systems required by the division, Cosma, Magna, ESA.
5. Influence the development, implementation of, or changes, to labour relation strategies necessary to foster the Magna Employee's Charter Principles and preserve a strong cultural foundation, quality work life environment within the division and drive any resulting programs or strategies as assigned.
6. Assist in establishing and maintaining effective policies and procedures for the division to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all employees.
7. Assist in the establishment and implementation of HR Department strategy, key performance indicators, and continuous improvement.
8. Actively involved in helping our company achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives as outlined in the Business Plan.
9. Assists with department budgets for health services/cafeteria/security/human relations.
10.Maintains overall supervision of division recruitment, placement, and departmental training programs.
11. Directs preparation and implementation in anticipation of division's Employment Equity legislation.
12. Assists with the administration of wage/salary policies/structures and for appraisal programs.
13.Protects interest of employees in accordance with the division's personnel and appropriate governmental laws and regulations.
14. Directs the preparation/maintenance of reports necessary to carry out functions of the department and prepares reports for corporate as requested including participation in employee surveys.
15. Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery.
16. Continuously develops their leadership skills.
17. Ensures fairness to direct reports, and encourages and participates in the Open Door Resolution Process for employee relation issues.
18. Provides employee coaching, development and training to ensure employees are trained or certified, as required.
19. Conducts performance appraisals informally or formally as required.
20.Conducts employee meetings as required.
21. Ensures the EMS requirements are established and implemented.
22. Ensures the performance of the EMS is reported to top management for review and continual improvement.
23. Participates in training programs as defined by Presstran.
24. Supports other supervisors in compliance with Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental programs and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Industrial Establishments, and other relevant Codes and Standards by:• evaluating health and safety performance of their supervisors• participating in performing regular workplace inspections to assist with hazard identification,• ensuring corrective actions are in place to address hazards;• reporting and leading investigation for all incidents, near misses, property damage etc.

2. Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments-Duties of Supervisors.
A) SUPERVISOR SHALL ENSURE THAT A WORKER: (a) works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures, and procedures required by this Act in the regulations; and (b) uses or wears the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker's employer requires to be used or worn.
B) AS SUPERVISOR SHALL, without limiting the strict duty imposed by subsection (A): (a) advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware; (b) where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker; and (c) take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.
