The HR Department Manager (temporary 13-month position) serves as the primary point of contact for employees and managers in their assigned teams regarding performance management, personnel movement, employment conditions, and project assignments. In collaboration with production and recruitment teams, they ensure that project staffing needs are identified and filled while maintaining efficient resource allocation.
This role requires a balance of coordination, leadership, and expertise in human resource management.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Tasks:
- Collaborate with the Department Head and Crew Planning Manager to identify available talent and allocate resources to VFX projects based on needs.
- Manage the onboarding of new hires, ensure training plans are followed, and support their integration into teams.
Support for Employees and Managers:
- Act as the first point of contact for questions related to contracts, employment conditions, career development, project assignments, and training requests.
- Work with project supervisors and department heads to conduct constructive performance evaluations and provide effective feedback.
Interdepartmental Coordination:
- Collaborate with other department managers to maintain smooth communication and consistency in interdepartmental practices.
- Support department heads in managing teams, organizing meetings, and following up on action items.
Talent Management and Training:
- Identify training and development needs in collaboration with the training team and contribute to the implementation of internal initiatives.
- Ensure teams are balanced in terms of expertise, level, and skills by working closely with department heads.
Policy and Process Management:
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies, processes, programs, and guidelines in collaboration with the HR team.
- Identify vacancies and work with the recruitment team to ensure the right candidates are hired, making selection decisions alongside department heads.
- Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years in an operational HR role (experience in the VFX industry strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in GSuite, Word, and Excel (knowledge of Flow is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of Quebec labor standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.

- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and coaching skills.
- Strong judgment, initiative, prioritization abilities, and negotiation skills.
