Backend Software Engineer II

(100% Remote - Canada)

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Backend Engineer II to join our team and build the core engine that powers the Procurify platform. You will be a key contributor to the server-side systems that handle everything from complex business logic to data storage and API services, directly impacting the performance, reliability, and scalability of our entire application.

In this role, you will work on a collaborative team to solve challenging technical problems and ship high-quality code. You are passionate about building robust, well-designed backend systems and are eager to grow your skills in a fast-paced, modern cloud environment.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

• Build & Ship Scalable APIs and Services: Apply your experience as a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the RESTful APIs and backend services that form the foundation of our product, using Python and Django.

• Design & Optimize Database Schemas: Contribute to the design of our database models and write efficient, secure queries. You will work to ensure the performance and integrity of our data layer.

• Champion Code Quality: Contribute clean, efficient, testable, and reusable code that is easy to maintain and extend. You will actively participate in code reviews, sharing your knowledge and providing constructive feedback to elevate the team.

• Strengthen System Architecture: Collaborate with your team on technical designs to ensure they follow appropriate patterns and are architecturally sound. You will help improve the implementation and architecture of our backend systems.

• Ensure System Reliability: Participate in the investigation and resolution of defects, performance bottlenecks, and any other issues affecting the quality and stability of the monolith.

  • Infrastructure & Containers: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

  • Databases: MySQL

  • CI/CD: CircleCI

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Backend Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in backend software development, preferably in a SaaS environment.

• Python Proficiency: Strong experience building and maintaining applications using Python and a major web framework (we use Django).

• API Design Skills: A solid understanding of RESTful API design principles and experience building and consuming APIs.

• Database Knowledge: Experience working with relational databases (we use MySQL), including schema design and query optimization.

• Agile & Collaborative: Experience working with agile practices (Scrum/Kanban) and CI/CD principles. You thrive in a team environment.

• Problem Solver: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously on complex features.

• Empathetic & Accountable: You act with compassion, believe that your team’s success is your success, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

• Base Salary Range: $103,000 - $129,000 CAD (This range is dependent on experience and not inclusive of any bonus, commission, benefits or equity that might exist in your total compensation package.)
