Job Description

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Sales Representative will work closely with the team of directors and will be responsible for purchasing scrap metal (from dealers and inter-company sources). The incumbent will also be required to develop and maintain exceptional business relationships with both new and existing customers. This position requires a dynamic, self-motivated individual capable of working closely with all staff and departments within the company, as well as with customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase scrap metal to ensure tonnage targets are met or exceeded while optimizing profit margins
  • Visit dealers and industrial suppliers, by phone or in person, to promote new and repeat business, provide quotes, offer customer service, address inquiries, handle complaints, and build relationships
  • Prospect for new clients by visiting individuals and small businesses (door-to-door sales)
  • Develop reliable networks to gather up-to-date information on buying/selling prices and local and regional market trends
  • Negotiate new contracts with customers
  • Conduct P&L analyses
  • Use knowledge of sorting and processing operations to make decisions that optimize pricing
  • Coordinate with administrative staff and the sales team to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all purchasing transactions
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on scrap purchasing prices for AIM-operated sites
  • Carry out special projects as assigned
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to team members
  • Spend approximately 80% of the time on the road and 20% in the office
  • Perform all other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Business, Sales, or Marketing (or any other equivalent education or experience)
  • 1+ year of experience (experience in the recycling, ferrous, or non-ferrous metals industry is an asset)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent skills in mathematics, problem-solving, and negotiation
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel across the assigned territory
  • Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset for the Quebec region
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and assess results
  • Ability to set and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Good understanding of organizational management
