About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager with 3+ years of experience in a similar role to join the Industrious Engineering Team. Technology is at the heart of re-thinking coworking and you will play a key role in shaping our vision of a better work-day into reality. Industrious engineers create an environment of curiosity and thrive on unique, meaningful challenges.
We understand that great engineering teams are built upon relationships as much as they are built on inspiring work. You will be managing our Growth team focusing on our website, lead generation and our members’ experience. You will play a key role in shaping the future of our public and members' applications used by thousands of users everyday.

We have a strong preference for candidates based in Montreal, Canada.
Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the app’s architecture, technologies, and approach align with both the short-term and long-term business goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support for career growth and skills development for each team member.
  • Enforce coding standards, design principles, and best practices. Review code quality regularly and encourage continuous improvement.
  • Guide the team through technical challenges and complex problems, especially when it comes to improving performance or resolving bottlenecks.
  • Take ownership of the apps’ performance by proactively identifying areas for improvement in speed, responsiveness, and scalability. Work with the team to implement solutions to enhance app performance, from database optimizations to refining frontend load times.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or similar role. At least 3 years of experience in a previous role. 
  • Proven experience as a Fullstack engineer. At least 5 years of experience in a previous role. 
  • Experience in e-commerce apps with a good understanding of A/B testing and conversion rates.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical SEO best practices and how they relate to the development and performance of web applications.
  • Strong knowledge of Javascript, Typescript, ReactJS, NodeJS, MongoDB and Apache Kafka.
  • Deep understanding of distributed architecture, experience with micro services and event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka an asset.
  • A desire for continuous self improvement and the solutions you will work with.
  • A knack for collaboration.
