Principal Consultant / Head of Software Development & Technical Operations
About Us
AlleyCorp Nord is a boutique consultancy building at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve challenging human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding.
About the role
This is a director-level individual contributor position with both client-facing and internal responsibilities. In this role, you will be the owner of our software development strategy and platform — you will own our internal cloud, security, and tooling stack and make strategic decisions that impact the entire company. You will also serve as architect and lead on a variety of client projects.
Your work will consist of:
- Billable client work (~50% of the time), which might include:
- Serving as technical lead and architect on client project teams, working closely with clients, project managers, product designers, software developers, and generally interdisciplinary teams — in these engagements, you will be expected to be hands-on.
- Performing solo hands-on work — e.g. Fractional CTO work for startups and other advisory work.
- Owning our internal tools and standards — from roadmaps for our internal tools to cloud provider partnerships. Working with other senior technical leaders to create, review, and enforce software development best practices.
- Mentoring our most senior technical team members and providing guidance to our engineering practice guild.
- Owning our security best practices and being the technical leader for compliance initiatives (e.g. SOC2); developing a security practice and roadmap (with assistance from our operations team).
- Working with our sales and business development team to grow the business by leading technical discussions in sales cycles and participating in marketing and promotional activities.
- Collaborating with our AI and design leadership to identify opportunities for our developers to create additional leverage, e.g. via internal projects and new services.
About you
We are seeking a seasoned technical leader who thrives as an individual contributor and has a keen business sense. You love making pragmatic technology choices to build maintainable and secure systems, but you also keep your eyes open to new trends.
- Extremely sharp software development skills across a variety of technology stacks.
- Very strong familiarity with cloud providers and their offerings; ability to architect systems independently of the provider.
- Professional experience in a variety of different sizes and stages of companies — from enterprise to startups— and a corresponding grasp of reasonable architectural tradeoffs
- A very strong understanding of security and privacy and applicable regulatory frameworks (experience working in highly regulated industries is a plus).
- 8+ years overall experience as a technology professional.
- Must have exceptional leadership and communication skills.
-
Must have strong French language presentation, technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably with American clients.
Some nice-to-haves: We would love for you to have some exposure to healthcare (clinical operations, medical devices, pharma, etc.), since that is our primary area of focus, but it’s a nice to have. We would also be thrilled if you had experience with open source project governance and were generally familiar with intellectual property matters in software development.
We typically hire generalists. In this role, we are expecting you to be T-shaped (with depth in software architecture, cloud, and security) but have a strong interest in helping generalists learn about your field and an affinity for other technical domains — namely data science and design.
All of our job postings describe a bit of a unicorn. If you're kind of a "narwhal," please apply anyway. You don't need to meet all the requirements, let alone the bonus criteria. While experience and skill sets are valuable, growth potential and attitudes are equally important. We are usually flexible on levels or can advise you when a more relevant posting opens.
