Job Description:

The purpose of the role is to support the regional sales team in achieving all individual insurance and retention targets by developing and managing various forums of sales promotion including sales campaigns. The incumbent will build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners who can aid in sales objectives.

The successful candidate will share in Sun Life’s values and believe in growth to achieve goals. They will manage escalations reported by the region, and escalate to RVP if necessary. They will help support market share growth by strategizing ways to increase advisor penetration and overall sales.

The Director of Sales will have leadership accountability for support functions including Insurance Sales Representatives, an Account Manager and Sales & Marketing Coordinator, and will be responsible for managing the existing relationship with some advisors and firms. They will spend an equal proportion of their time on team leadership & partner collaboration, sales activation and advisor & relationship management.

What will you do:

  • Management of support functions including Business Development Managers, Inside Sales and Regional Coordinator
  • Supporting RVP in firm relationship management at senior leadership level
  • Manage front-line escalations
  • Improving sales results through Inside Sales and business management campaigns
  • Responsible for some advisor & firm relationships
  • Work with Directors of Sales, nationally, to define, promote and share best practices
  • Support the regional team in identifying sales opportunities through new or existing relationships
  • Identify, monitor and mitigate potential risks to the company
  • Effectively managing the team’s budget
  • Assist the Regional Vice President in the development of a strategic plan for the region that will provide direction for the marketing and sale of Sun Life Financial products and services through advisory distribution channels

Shared Accountabilities:

  • Complex tier 1 case consultation
  • Budget planning & accountability
  • Support Insurance Sales Representative onboarding
  • Input into sales target discussions from a firm perspective Liaise with Insurance Sales Representatives to maintain relationships with advisors

What do you need to succeed:

Education, Licensing & Accreditation Requirements:

  • University degree or post-secondary education
  • Life and Health Insurance License
  • Knowledge of insurance and health products and operations
  • Chartered Financial Planner (CFP) or Certified Life Underwriter (CLU/AVA) – asset
  • Leadership experience with proven results - asset

Leadership / Management Competencies:

  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously under tight timelines
  • Strong partnering skills and demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • 5-7 years proven success in a sales role is an asset
  • Superior relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and our competitors, including market segmentation and trends
  • Proven networking skills with advisors and sales leaders
  • Collaborate with colleagues, nationally, on key initiatives

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
