Job Description:

The Director, Client Data Solutions is focused on managing and optimizing client data integration, governance, and analytics within Group Benefits and Group Retirement Services. This role drives technology-enabled transformation and operational excellence through collaboration with multiple business units and external partners.

Working closely with Business Development, Technology, Group Benefits Administration, and GRS Operations, you will lead the strategy, design, implementation, and optimization of client data solutions. You will drive the evolution of our data integration ecosystem, enabling scalable, secure, and automated data exchanges while leveraging analytics and emerging technologies to improve operational performance and client outcomes.

This role requires a strategic leader with strong technical acumen, experience leading large operational teams, and a proven ability to drive data quality, automation, governance, and technology-enabled transformation.

What will you do?

  • Lead enterprise-wide data strategy: Develop and execute a client data strategy aligned with business objectives, overseeing integration frameworks and solutions, data architecture, governance, and quality standards.

  • Lead and develop teams: Guide a diverse team of about 40 professionals across locations, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence, while establishing KPIs and driving sustainable adoption ofnew tools and processes.

  • Manage data governance and analytics: Ensure data accuracy, security, compliance, and operational integrity; leverage analytics and operational metrics to identify opportunities and support evidence-based decisions.

  • Drive technology and automation initiatives: Design scalable data integration solutions using APIs, HRIS, payroll systems, and emerging technologies while partnering with Technology teams to modernize platforms and automate processes.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Proven experience leading large-scale data, analytics, integration, or technology-enabled operations teams.

  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, including data governance, data quality, data lifecycle management, privacy, and risk controls.

  • Deep understanding of system integrations, including APIs, file transfer technologies, data mapping, transformation, and testing methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics and operational data to identify insights, solve complex problems, and influence strategic decisions.

  • Experience leading technology transformation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that balance operational excellence, client experience, and technology enablement.

  • Strong business acumen combined with the ability to translate technical concepts into business-oriented solutions.

  • Client-focused and solution-oriented with the ability to navigate complex technical and operational challenges.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, influence, and stakeholder management skills.

  • A thought leader who is inquisitive, innovative, and comfortable challenging the status quo.

  • Experience engaging directly with external clients, HRIS vendors, payroll providers, and technology partners to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Understanding of Group Benefits and Group Retirement products, operations, and industry trends is preferred.

Preferred Assets

  • Leadership experience in data management, data solutions, systems integration, analytics, or technology operations within a financial services organization.

  • Experience with modern data platforms, business intelligence tools, reporting solutions, and workflow automation technologies.

  • Knowledge of API-enabled integrations, cloud-based data environments, and digital transformation practices.

  • PMP, Agile, Lean Six Sigma, or related project/program management certification.

  • CEBS designation.

  • Experience leading data governance, data quality, or master data management initiatives.

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
