Description

CAE is strengthening its enterprise data governance capabilities to support consistent, trusted, and well-defined data across all business functions. We are seeking a Data Governance & Stewardship Lead, a senior contributor who will guide the execution of governance work, lead our network of data stewards, and ensure alignment to enterprise definitions, standards, and quality expectations.  

This role is ideal for someone who excels at building cross-functional relationships, translating governance standards into practical execution, and shaping how the organization defines, manages, and improves its data assets. 


Lead and Guide the Data Steward Network 

  • Identify, build, and manage relationships with data stewards across business domains, ensuring each has clarity on ownership, responsibilities, and governance expectations.   

  • Guide stewards through the creation, refinement, and approval of data definitions, KPIs, data quality rules, and domain boundaries. 

  • Facilitate cross domain alignment and help resolve definition conflicts, discrepancies, or stewardship gaps. 

  • Guide stewards and technical teams through root cause analysis and remediation planning. 


Provide Governance Leadership  

  • Serve as the expert guiding and overseeing governance work and priorities, shaping workflow and decision pathways. 

  • Translate governance frameworks, policies, and standards into actionable guidance for stewards and project teams. 

  • Lead data governance onboarding process. 

 

Own Standards & Metadata Quality 

  • Oversee updates to the data glossary, metadata fields, naming conventions, and business definitions in governance tools. 

  • Review and refine definitions and rules to ensure consistency and alignment with enterprise governance standards. 

  • Shape and validate data quality rules, monitoring indicators, and domain specific quality expectations. 


Cross Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner with the data platform team to maintain accurate catalog entries, lineage views, and metadata documentation based on steward input. 

  • Oversee and prioritize incoming governance requests from all business units; ensure items are properly documented, assessed, and routed through the governance process. 

  • Provide guidance on practices and stakeholder coordination. 

 

Advance Data Literacy & Clear Communication 

  • Prepare clear summaries, recommendations, and communications for technical and business audiences.  

  • Support data literacy by helping stewards and stakeholders understand governance processes, standards, and best practices. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and stewardship models. 

  • Experience managing cross functional discussions related to definitions, standards, ownership, and data quality. 

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate governance concepts into clear, actionable guidance. 

  • Proven ability to influence, align, and coordinate to build strong relationships across technical and business teams. 

  • Bilingual (English, French).


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience applying data science techniques to solve business problems. 

  • Structured, strategic approach to guiding work, resolving issues, and maintaining consistency. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for using data to drive business results. 

  • High attention to detail and a structured, organized approach to managing workflows and decisions. 

  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, hypothesis testing, and experimental design. 

  • Proficiency in data wrangling, cleaning, and manipulation tools (e.g., SQL, Python). 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor explanations to non-technical audiences.
