Data Engineer — Scalable Analytics & AI

Salve is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design and maintain a sophisticated data analytics platform for regulated industries — with a particular focus on the cannabis sector. In this role, you’ll build and optimize data pipelines, processing, and models that drive analytics, reporting, and machine learning. You’ll also partner with analysts and software engineers to deliver scalable solutions tailored to diverse reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build and monitor ETL/ELT pipelines to move and transform data from various sources (databases, files, APIs, etc.) into data warehouses using tools like Hevo, Airbyte, Glue, and similar technologies.

  • Standardize and model data using dbt to prepare datasets for analytics, BI, and AI/ML applications.

  • Assist with report creation in data visualization tools.

  • Optimize database and query performance for both transactional and analytical workloads.

  • Implement real-time and near-real-time data ingestion.

  • Manage and automate database schema changes and migrations.

  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance through monitoring, validation, and logging.

  • Investigate and resolve reporting issues, pipeline failures, and other data quality problems as they arise.

  • Collaborate with analysts and software engineers to enhance the core product and tailor reporting for enterprise clients.

  • Maintain thorough data model documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in SQL (complex queries, indexing, optimization, and partitioning).

  • Hands-on experience with relational databases and data warehouses, especially Snowflake, MySQL, and Postgres.

  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles (star/snowflake schema, normalization/denormalization).

  • Experience building ETL/ELT and data processing pipelines using tools such as dbt, Hevo, Airbyte, Glue, or Spark.

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Metabase, Power BI, Mode, or ThoughtSpot.

  • Experience working with Python.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data infrastructure, especially AWS.

  • Experience with CI/CD for data pipelines (e.g. Terraform, GitHub Actions, dbt Cloud).

  • Proficiency with Excel.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.

  • Experience building conversational UIs using generative AI models, especially with Snowflake Cortex.

  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning, and MLOps, particularly for forecasting and classification.

  • Experience building and maintaining web scrapers.

  • Familiarity with PHP and Laravel.

  • MUST reside between UTC-4 (EST) & UTC-7 (PST) Time Zones

Desired Skills

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly

  • Comfortable leading client calls and presenting data findings

  • Proactive, responsive, and focused on delivering a great customer experience

  • Collaborative team player who works well across technical and non-technical teams

  • Organized and adaptable, able to manage multiple client engagements and troubleshoot on the fly
