Job Description

Vestrum is a part of the Specialty EMR data division of CorEvitas and collects Electronic Health Record from medical practices across the United States for use in very detailed analysis of the use and outcomes of certain drugs.  This real-world evidence is developed by Vestrum analysts and used by both independent researchers within member practices and by pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Currently, Vestrum receives data from a variety of physician practices and is continuously expanding both in data size and complexity The independent sources are electronic record software vendors, each of which have different layouts, contents, labelling and other variations. These data received contains both standard and text fields.

As such, Vestrum is in continuous need of enhancing the dataset. These enhancements include expanding on existing datapoints currently in production and curating new datapoints from both new and existing data sources.

Requirements

Vestrum is looking for a Data analyst to assist in ETL development/SQL Development to join our talented database team in support of our development of real-world evidence used by medical professionals and the pharmaceutical industry.

This position is responsible for the procurement of new sources, building the ETL (extraction, transformation, and loading) and building of processes and algorithms to allow the organization to effectively answer medical centric questions.

From an integrity point of view the availability, integrity, accessibility, and performance of all the Vestrum database systems by supporting, enhancing, administering, and maintaining our corporate databases. The position also requires the management of staff engaged in operational aspects of the data administration process.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure weekly EHR data updates for existing Vestrum panel physicians are complete and appropriately loaded into databases and their associated applications
  • For new panel members and new applications, standardize free-text and other unstructured data fields including PDF files into structured data with associated updates to the data base
  • Continue to develop automated quality assurance functions to validate incoming data and ensure the data are loaded into the warehouse appropriately
  • Merge longitudinal patient level data from a variety of different sources and manage a tokenization project to link patient information from different sources
  • Maintain various mapping tables for use by analysts (physicians, drugs, dosage forms and strengths, etc.)
  • Familiar with linking and transforming patient activity data into standardized outputs.
  • Maintain data base documentation describing data elements
  • Maintain database security
  • Ensure US privacy regulations are adhered to
  • Perform database space management and monitoring
  • Manage operations including distribution of weekly and monthly reports
  • Communicate with and maintain strong relations with data suppliers

Your key strengths include:

  • Expert level knowledge of SQL
  • Must have experience with EMR Systems or similar data equivalent
  • Must be familiar with EMR Data Structures or similar data equivalent
  • Intermediate Programming Skills with Sas/R/Python
  • Strong analytical skills accompanied by detailed system knowledge
  • Ability to identify and quickly resolve data issues
  • Good communications skills – must work directly with data suppliers, physician office personnel and other data professionals
  • Ability to identify and develop solutions to a variety of data related issues

Additional Experience and Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience of managing SQL server and the ability to migrate to the AWS environment in the future (AWS experience not necessary)
  • experience working with new data sources and integrating these data into the existing database structure
  • Experience in problem solving, troubleshooting and analyzing database issues and/or problems and to take appropriate corrective action
  • Experience in researching and/or applying current trends, methodologies, standards, practices and/or products in an IT environment.
  • Experience with health care data and the pharmaceutical industry would be an advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar equivalent
