Job Description
Reporting to the EVP, Finance, the Corporate Controller is responsible for preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, supporting and supervising the corporate finance team, producing financial analyses, overseeing treasury activities, preparing and maintaining the budget, ensuring appropriate documentation and operation of internal controls, and contributing to firm-management initiatives. The role will also play a key part in Finance transformation projects, such implementing a new travel & expense management system.
Key responsibilities
Accounting:
- Oversee end-to-end accounting operations (including billing, accounts payable, and related processes).
- Analyze quarterly results and contribute to presenting financial results.
- Handle information requests from partners, employees, and other Novacap stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing management of the firm’s annual budget.
- Support the implementation of a new system to manage employee travel and related expenses.
Payroll:
- Oversee and supervise payroll activities under the leadership of the Payroll Manager.
- Participate in and support initiatives to review and automate payroll.
Treasury:
- Ensure sound management of treasury activities and maintain cash flows related to Novacap’s corporate operations.
- Supervise the opening and closing of bank accounts.
Tax:
- In collaboration with the Tax Manager, prepare required information for governmental and regulatory bodies, tax audits, sales tax activities, and other mandates with external advisors.
Team Management:
- Manage and supervise the corporate finance team (e.g., financial analysts, Payroll Manager).
- Hire, train, develop, and retain qualified team members.
Other functions:
- Oversee regulatory obligations, including required reporting.
- Establish and document internal controls and accounting policies.
- Manage and communicate with external service providers.
- Provide administrative and accounting support to corporate matters in collaboration with other departments.
- Participate in assessing and implementing new technology tools within the finance team.
- Respond to ad hoc requests.
Experience & Skills :
- CPA designation.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of accounting experience.
- Excellent knowledge of the full accounting cycle.
- Team management experience.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Systems experience is an asset—particularly NetSuite, Rippling, and Concur.
- Bilingual—French and English, spoken and written.
