The Controller is responsible for managing month-end and year-end financial processes, overseeing AR/AP management, audit and tax filings, team leadership, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, while optimizing financial systems and collaborating with other departments.
Your responsibilities will include:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Manage timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and publish financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), ensuring compliance with IFRS and internal policies.
Accounts Receivable (AR) Management
- Lead the full AR cycle — from invoicing and collections to cash application.
- Optimize cash flow, reduce days sales outstanding, and maintain healthy customer relationships.
Accounts Payable (AP) Management
- Oversee the end-to-end AP cycle, including invoice approvals, vendor payments, and expense tracking.
- Ensure proper controls are in place and payments align with working capital goals.
Expense Reimbursements
- Oversee the employee expense reimbursement process from submission to payment.
- Ensure expenses are properly coded, policy-compliant, and supported with accurate documentation.
Audit & Tax Filings
- Coordinate and manage annual external audits, ensuring timely preparation of audit deliverables.
- Oversee corporate tax compliance, including federal and provincial filings, GST/QST, and other statutory requirements.
- Maintain documentation, support regulatory obligations, and ensure the company remains in good standing with tax authorities.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain and enforce strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Safeguard audit readiness at all times.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Manage and mentor a small finance team, fostering accuracy, accountability, and growth.
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Engineering, Product, HR, and other functions to align financial goals with business priorities.
Financial Systems & Tech Stack Ownership
- Own and continuously improve the financial tech stack — including accounting, billing, and reporting systems.
- Drive automation, data integrity, and scalability to support business growth and informed decision-making.
What we’re looking for:
- CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting qualification).
- 4–6+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 2+ years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and experience applying accounting standards in a high-growth environment.
- SaaS / technology industry experience strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of AR/AP cycles, tax compliance, and audit processes.
- Proven ability to build, manage, and mentor a small team.
- Hands-on experience with modern accounting and finance systems; comfortable driving process improvements and automation.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to evolving priorities.
- Proactive, resourceful, and solution-oriented with a strong sense of ownership.
