Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Compensation, the Compensation Consultant supports the enablement of the Total Rewards, HR and enterprise strategies by:

  • Supporting HR Business Partners in the delivery of compensation programs and business initiatives

  • Maintaining and enhancing compensation programs, processes and tools

  • Performing research, analysis and reporting on Sun Life’s market competitiveness

This role supports Sun Life’s corporate functions and IT organization globally. 

What will you do?

  • Build understanding of available and relevant data (quantitative and qualitative) and perform analysis to gain new insights that support business decisions

  • Draw upon a variety of sources to understand industry developments and trends, including internal and external compensation design, practices and policies

  • Lead smaller compensation-related projects or work streams, seeking optimization opportunities

  • Review, recommend, implement and support modern, compelling, integrated and equitable compensation and Total Rewards solutions (programs, processes, tools, data) with the goal of enhancing the Employee and Business Partner experience

  • Play a key role in supporting HR Business Partners during the annual pay cycle

  • Evaluate jobs using Sun Life’s job evaluation methodology

  • Make data-driven compensation recommendations

  • Respond to inquiries from HR colleagues

What you need to succeed?

  • University degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • Completion or progress toward CCP or CHRP designation is preferable

  • Strong knowledge of compensation practices and theory

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., V-lookup, pivot tables, formulas, formatting, etc.)

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and financial modeling skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy (experience with statistics and data visualization technologies such as Tableau is an asset)

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and consulting skills, incorporating different perspectives, backgrounds and styles

  • Excellent initiative to plan and manage work independently, including proactively solving problems and identifying ways to improve work processes and practices

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
