POSITION OVERVIEW

BDC Advisory Services is looking for a Business Advisor to join the team, with a focus on helping Canadian entrepreneurs expand in Canada and/or targeted international markets.  In this role, you will be responsible for scoping and managing market expansion mandates, that enable BDC’s client companies to effectively realize their export or growth objectives.

The Business Advisor have extensive international expertise and experience regarding developing sales and channel in international markets; has proven consulting experience – particularly with small and medium entrepreneurs; has expertise in both industrial and consumer markets; who genuinely care about having an impact on Canadian entrepreneurs to help them succeed.      


CHALLENGES TO BE MET 

  • Scope and manage international or market expansion plan mandates.

  • Manage delivery of mandates – including assuring client satisfaction, budget, schedule and objectives, and quality assurance - by guiding and monitoring a group of senior BDC Network Consultants.

  • Provide business development support to BDC’s Client Partners and Account Managers to help promote and sell international expansion mandates.     

  • Provide sales support by working closely with Client Partners to help transfer international expertise & knowledge; by performing client need diagnostics and preparing client-proposals.

  • Contribute to outreach activities by developing marketing content and helping to promote the offering to Canadian Entrepreneurs.

  • Serve as a “subject matter expert” and stay current on market trends to support the development and evolution of Center of Expertise’s solutions and tools.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or international business, an MBA or CITP designation is a plus.

  • Bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written, in a professional context.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ international business development or international sales, marketing and channel development experience.

  • Extensive experience in consulting management with small and medium size Canadian entrepreneurs.

  • Working knowledge of Canada’s export ecosystem to support Canadian entrepreneurs (federal and provincial institutions, and private sector organizations).

  • Strong project management skills: proven ability to manage and deliver many international expansion projects.

  • Strong client service orientation, with a clear focus on delivering value to them.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as an ability to participate in outreach, promotion and business development activities.

  • Collaboration and ability to effectively engage and manage relationships with a high volume of diverse stakeholders (Clients, Client Partners, Account Managers, Consultants, Business Advisors,…) with emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to develop pragmatic solutions that are relevant in a SME business environment.

  • Travel within a limited geographic area (province of QC mostly), with occasional travel to other locations across Canada, if required.
