About the Role
Join us in building applications that are not only beautiful to use, but grounded in solid 
engineering and scalable architecture. We’re looking for a seasoned front-end–focused 
engineer who can design and deliver robust web and mobile applications while shaping the 
frameworks, tooling, and patterns that make application development across the organization 
faster, more consistent, and easier to maintain.

You’ll lead the creation of a design-to-deployment pipeline for web applications — starting 
from a design kit provided by UI/UX designers (or your own designs), through reusable, tested 
UI components, to integrated, production-ready apps — enabling both engineers and 
forward-deployed technical teams to create high-quality applications with minimal friction.
Beyond delivering individual apps, you will establish architectural guidelines, coding 
standards, and shared components that allow our application layer to scale without sacrificing 
quality.

You will work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to ensure applications 
integrate seamlessly with our platform APIs, geospatial systems, and AI outputs.
The ideal candidate blends deep knowledge of modern front-end engineering with strong 
software design fundamentals and a platform mindset, thinking about reuse, maintainability, 
and developer experience from the very start.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain web and mobile applications that are performant, 
   secure, and scalable.
• Design and evolve our self-service application development platform, including 
   reusable UI components, internal frameworks, developer tooling, and documentation.
• Build and maintain a shared UI component library integrated with design kits and 
   discoverable through tools like Storybook.
• Develop API playgrounds and developer portals to make our platform capabilities 
   easily accessible to internal and external developers.
• Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate designs into accessible, pixel-perfect, 
   and responsive interfaces.
• Integrate applications with geospatial data, AI model outputs, and other complex 
  datasets.
• Establish and champion architectural best practices, accessibility standards, coding 
   guidelines, and performance benchmarks.
• Mentor engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on front-end 
   application development.
• Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals — algorithms, data structures, and 
   application architecture.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one modern front-end framework 
   (Svelte, React, Vue , etc).
• Strong experience with design systems and component-driven development.
• Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards, and UI 
   performance optimization.
• Proven experience building and integrating APIs.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows, containerized deployments (Docker), and cloud 
   platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Demonstrated ability to design systems for reuse, maintainability, and scalability.
• Excellent communication skills — able to explain architectural trade-offs to technical 
   and non-technical audiences.
   

Preferred Qualifications

• UI/UX design skills or experience collaborating closely with design teams.
• Experience with geospatial frameworks (Mapbox GL, Leaflet, OpenLayers, etc) or 
   working with GIS data.
• Familiarity with developer tooling for design systems and component-driven 
   development (Storybook, Chromatic, etc).
• Experience with mobile app development (React Native, Capacitor, Flutter, etc).
• Prior work on internal developer platforms, design systems, or application 
   frameworks.
• Knowledge of WebGL, D3.js, or other visualization libraries.
• Experience in climate, sustainability, or data-for-good domains.
