Backend Software Engineer (Springboot, AWS) 

Based in Montreal. Hybrid position that requires at least 2 days in-office per week. A valid Canadian work permit is required.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Montreal team! You’ll play a vital role in developing and deploying our cutting-edge healthcare platform, working alongside Engineering, Mobile Development, and Product teams to enhance both web and mobile experiences for our AI-powered cardiac care solution.

This role is 70% backend, 30% cloud, with a focus on building new features and improving our infrastructure to fight cardiovascular disease. Your work will directly contribute to innovative, life-changing care for patients worldwide.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and own backend features that power our platform.
• Collaborate across teams to improve patient outcomes and business success.
• Optimize our infrastructure for fast-paced scaling and seamless performance.
• Solve complex problems with the freedom to innovate, while maintaining high coding standards.

Requirements (Must have)

• 3+ years of professional experience in developing highly scalable backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java - Spring Boot.
• Strong knowledge of SQL databases.
• Experience designing and scaling backend systems on the cloud.
• Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS (preferred) or GCP.
• Proficiency in using containerization tools like Docker.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with tools like CircleCI, GitHub Actions, etc.
• Familiarity with serverless technologies like AWS Lambda.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot, debug, and solve complex issues.
• Strong proficiency in building robust APIs that power web and mobile clients.
• Familiarity with engineering best practices such as design patterns and unit testing.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Must hold a valid work permit to work in Canada (Kento Health does not sponsor work permits).
• Ability to work 2 days per week in the Montreal office 

Bonus (Nice to have)

• Experience with other programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, etc.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases
• Experience with additional CI/CD tools or workflows.
• Experience in healthcare or a regulated industry.

1. Initial Discussion with the Engineering Manager. 
2. Technical challenge: A preliminary test to evaluate your technical skills.
3. Live Coding Session & Technical Interview: A real-time coding session focusing on coding skills, where you will demonstrate your problem-solving abilities. This ensures candidates with genuine coding expertise succeed.
4. Fit Interview with a Founder: A final interview to assess cultural fit and alignment with our mission and values.
