Job Description:

We seek an innovative and strategic leader to join our team as the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Technology Strategy and Transformation. This pivotal role will drive our Canada Technology strategy and lead the execution of transformational initiatives, positioning Sun Life as a digital leader in the industry.

As the AVP, Technology Strategy and Transformation, you will be responsible for creating multi-year strategies and roadmaps that align technology with our overall business strategy. You will establish portfolio management metrics, drive our digital maturity journey, and develop a communications strategy that showcases our transformation, innovation, and execution success.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of Sun Life Canada's Technology strategy, translating strategic vision into actionable plans and integrated roadmaps
  • Lead Canada Technology portfolio management, establishing and governing an operating calendar for strategic planning and financial management, as well as coordinating budgets, forecasts, and financial planning initiatives
  • Develop and implement a scalable, efficient global delivery model for Canada Technology services and solutions while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within delivery teams
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive communications strategy for Canada Technology, oversee key internal communications and storytelling initiatives, and oversee planning of key events for Canada Technology
  • Act as a Strategic Leader in identifying opportunities, prioritize initiatives based on business impact and client needs, with understanding of external landscape, emerging technologies, innovative approaches and industry best practices
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Canada Technology and Business Unit teams while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of skilled business management professionals, fostering innovation, an inclusive culture that fosters employee engagement, teamwork, creativity and a commitment to excellence
  • Create a strategic talent management framework
  • Seek out and lead strategic partnerships with technology vendors and partners
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive data and analytics strategy to support informed decision-making, drive continuous improvement and measure the impact and effectiveness of technology automation and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology or business leadership roles, preferably in strategy, planning, or communications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or related field, or relevant job experience
  • Proven track record in driving innovation and leading digital transformation initiatives
  • Strong business acumen and deep understanding of industry trends
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and change management skills
  • Experience leading teams in an Agile/Digital leadership environment
  • Expertise in product management methodologies and data-driven decision making
  • Expertise in data-driven decision-making and analytics
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
