AVP, Individual Insurance and Affinity
The opportunity
Manulife is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Individual Insurance & Affinity legal team. This position requires providing strategic and specialized legal counsel, delivering practical, timely, and cost-effective solutions to safeguard and promote Manulife’s interests in Canada.
Reporting to the VP & Chief Counsel of Individual Insurance, Affinity, and Canada Law, this role requires collaboration across the Canada Law team and with senior legal and business management as well as leaders of related functional groups within the Canada Segment. Additionally, the individual may represent Manulife in relevant industry working groups.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide strategic legal advice focused on achieving business objectives, managing risks, and developing risk mitigation strategies to meet Manulife's goals
Provide comprehensive analysis and expert advice on legislative and regulatory matters across Canada
Draft and negotiate key contracts with vendors, partners, and plan sponsors
Provide guidance on insurance, commercial relationships and agreements, digital matters, privacy concerns, and technology-related issues
Support the creation of products and services that are digital-oriented and customer-focused
Support Canada Law in delivering legal services, as well as fostering team engagement and development
Collaborate with various legal teams and colleagues in Compliance, Government Relations Canada, Privacy & Cyber, and Anti-Fraud as necessary
Required Qualifications:
A member of a provincial Bar association with at least 10 years of meaningful experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of influencing all levels of the organization, including senior management
Proficient in prioritizing and making risk-based decisions
Proven ability to work independently, collaboratively, and strategically under pressure
Demonstrates exceptional leadership in building and maintaining trusted relationships with management, business partners, and colleagues

Salary range is expected to be between
$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CADIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact [email protected] for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
