Company Description

At Techo-Bloc, we’re entrepreneurial builders who roll up our sleeves and make things happen. With 9 manufacturing facilities, 15+ distribution centers, and 900+ employees across 20+ locations in Canada and the U.S., we’re growing fast — including a new plant in South Carolina — and finance sits at the centre of that growth.

Job Description

The opportunity

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller who wants to do more than close the books. You’ll work alongside our Controller and operations leaders to turn numbers into decisions: explaining why margins moved, where costs are drifting, and what the business should do about it.

This is a visible role with a clear path forward. It’s designed for someone who wants to grow into a Controller or Analyst position, and we’ll invest in getting you there.

A day in the life

Your morning starts with coffee and the overnight numbers. Sales posted higher than forecast at one of our distribution centers, and scrap at a plant is running above plan, so you flag both before your 9:30 with the Controller, where you walk through the month-end close checklist and agree on which reconciliations still need attention.

Late morning, you join the monthly review with a plant’s operations manager. Instead of just presenting a variance report, you come in with a view: raw material costs explain part of the margin drop, but a production mix shift explains the rest. The conversation turns into a plan, and you leave with a follow-up analysis to build.

After lunch, you’re in D365. A cost report isn’t pulling the way operations needs it to, so you test a fix with the systems team and document the change. Then you spend an hour on something you’ve been wanting to automate: a manual prepaid schedule that eats half a day every month. You get it most of the way there in Power Query.

Mid-afternoon, a U.S. operations lead calls with a budget question about the new South Carolina plant. You switch to English, pull the assumptions, and talk them through what changed since the last forecast.

You wrap up by prepping fixed asset support for the auditors’ upcoming visit and noting what you’ll tackle tomorrow. No two days look exactly alike, and that’s the point: you’re learning the full scope of the Controller role one real problem at a time.

What you’ll do

Be a business partner to operations. You’ll analyze inventory, sales, costs, margins, and variances across our plants and distribution network, then bring those insights to monthly meetings with operations managers. You’ll spend real time understanding how the business runs, not just how it’s recorded.

Own key parts of the close. You’ll help prepare monthly and annual financial statements, lead account reconciliations, manage fixed assets and prepaids, and support the year-end audit.

Drive budgeting and forecasting. You’ll work with department leaders to build the annual budget, validate forecast data, and track assumptions and variances throughout the year.

Make our systems and processes better. We went live on Microsoft D365 earlier this year, and there’s plenty left to build. You’ll test and refine reports, automate manual work, and help shape how finance uses the system going forward.

Take on cross-functional projects. You’ll collaborate with finance, operations, and administrative teams on initiatives that improve financial performance across a growing North American footprint.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • CPA designation and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvement — manufacturing experience is a strong asset
  • Advanced Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, Power Query)
  • Experience with an ERP such as D365, Microsoft AX, or SAP
  • A sharp eye for detail and the ability to explain financial results clearly to non-finance people
  • Bilingualism in French and English, with strong written and spoken English to support our U.S. operations
