HB Studios is a driving force in the creation of sports video games and the studio behind PGA TOUR 2K Golf – presently working on Console and PC. We have an opportunity for an Expert 3D Artist to join our team of artists, creators, and fans, who are passionate about the art and process involved in video game development.
As an Expert 3D Artist you’re able to establish and execute on a plan to accomplish the task at hand. You’re able to identify and solve complex issues and achieve goals in creative and effective ways, often taking on the most complex challenges where your expertise leads to solutions. You are an active participant and valuable contributor in defining the project vision and goals in your area of expertise. You create AAA quality 3D models that define and maintain the vision of the games’ look and feel. You drive for constant improvement and evolution of asset production methods and techniques that continually push the bar of what gaming platforms are capable of.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Leads, Art Managers and Production to visualize and develop asset production pipelines and workflows
- Proficient in being able to maintain a cohesive direction ensuring all assets are created to the same standards.
- Work across multiple disciplines including modeling, UV mapping, texturing, optimizing, outsourced delivery review and integration, as well as scene organization and implementation.
- Balance performance issues while working within design and technical constraints to maintain a high level of quality.
- Create the highest quality, ‘game ready’, 3D models and textures for environments, architecture, and supporting props using innovative techniques and pipelines.
- Provides technical direction, support and guidance to less experienced members of the team.
- Keep your finger on the pulse to ever-changing industry standards, tools, and techniques.
- Write and maintain documentation of workbooks on Confluence.
- Participate and engage in team and department meetings.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Typically a minimum of 6 - 8+ years of professional experience in 3D Art.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of 3D content authoring techniques, including high-poly and game-resolution modeling, UVing, texturing, and optimization.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of Maya, 3DMax, Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, and Unity.
- An excellent ability to interpret 2D reference material into 3D textured models.
- Fully competent with source control software (ex. Perforce), and project tracking tools and software (ex. JIRA/Confluence and Shotgrid)
- A reliable teammate with the ability to work independently.
- An effective communicator in both verbally and written forms.
- A detail-oriented person with flexibility and problem-solving skills.
Location/Relocation Requirements
- Position based in Nova Scotia
- Willingness to relocate to Nova Scotia is helpful
