Title: AS/400 Solution Designer

Location: Toronto, ON

Type: Fulltime or Contract or CTH

Scope:

Reporting to the Director of the Development Team for Application Sales and

Distribution, the incumbent acts as the technical lead for projects. From the design phase to the production environment, will participate in the organic design (sequence diagram) under development. Candidate will play an advisory role with programmers AS / 400 of his team and participate in the implementation of components according to pre-established norms and standards and ensuring adherence to quality and schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Designs and maintenance of complete application solutions based on project requirements.

• Ensures that the solutions meet the overall architecture, logic and business technique.

• Analyzes and documents the impacts of proposed solutions while identifying and promoting the reuse of components.

• Writes or updates the deliverables according to the methodology (documentation, sequence diagram and class).

• Manages a team of developers (4-6) from a technical standpoint

• Ensures compliance of norms and standards, best practice development and code reviews, while contributing to improving these.

• Participates in the development and application support.

• Participates in development efforts estimates and assumptions provides concrete support for its figures.

• Advises and assists the project manager for the planning of the development work.

• Participates, advises, document and follows the deployment of applications in different environments.

• Dealings with other teams to identify conflicts between projects and manage resolutions.

Additional Information:

Technical Competencies / Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in solution design

• Experience of at least 5 years of development of applications RPGLE

• Very good knowledge of the ‘IBM i’ Operating system (AS/400)

• Very good knowledge of DB2 as well as structured query language (SQL)

• Knowledge of MKS Implementer

• Knowledge of Rational Developer for ‘IBM i’

• Knowledge of the unified object modeling notation (UML)

Good to Have: 

• JAVA development of knowledge in an advanced environment such as Java / EJB, Weblogic Server (WLS) or Websphere, Windows, Oracle, etc. sharing multiple databases including Oracle, DB2 and SQL / Server

• Experience of XML and related technologies such as XML schemas, XML namespaces, xpath , xslt.

General Competencies

• Minimum 10 years of application development experience.

• Minimum 3 years of managing team of developers

• Excellent skills in verbal and written communication skills in French and English, both with external stakeholders, colleagues, team members with management.

• Sense of innovation, initiative, creativity, organization, rigor, autonomy and work collaboratively.
